Chapter 62 Madness!
Chapter 62 Madness!
Elphis was still running, his lips beneath the iron mask covered in blood.
There were no footsteps behind him, and the steam-armored man was left far behind. He deliberately chose to run through terrain that was difficult for the steam-armored man to pass through. He squeezed through the dense tree trunks, his shoulders scraping against the bark, and his boots stepping on the slippery tree roots.
Ding--
As he ran, Elphis's pupils suddenly contracted, and his left foot accidentally broke a tripwire.
boom--
The improvised explosive device exploded at his feet, sending sparks and dust flying. He was thrown into the air by the blast wave, tumbling halfway before his back slammed against the trunk of a large tree. He fell to his knees, his ears ringing, his legs unresponsive, his knees barely leaving the ground before he fell back down.
"Brock, that beast!" he cursed angrily.
Andrei hurriedly caught up, and with a snap, the two iron teeth of the beast sprang out of the mud and bit his metal right leg!
Iron teeth embedded themselves in the gaps in the deck. Andrei looked down at his right leg, which was trapped, then looked up at Elphis kneeling on the ground, his eyes filled with an even stronger, almost overflowing, killing intent.
He bent down, grabbed the iron teeth of the beast's trap with both hands, and pried them open from the gap in the deck. The sound of metal scraping against metal was sharp and piercing.
"Tell me where Simon is!"
Just then, the heretic whose face had been half smashed by Andrei and whose head was a bloody mess pounced on him from the side once again.
His left eye socket was hollow, the eyeball shattered somewhere, and his right eye was reduced to a slit, the pupil glaring desperately through the blood and grime.
A bone spur splintered from his right elbow as he pounced on Andrei from behind, the sharp bone spur piercing Andrei's left shoulder.
Andrei roared, unable to lift his left hand, so he grabbed Fador’s arm that was stuck in his shoulder with his right hand, his five fingers digging into the flesh and his nails digging into the gap between the bone spur and the muscle.
He pulled with all his might, and Faldor's bone spur was pulled out inch by inch from his shoulder blade! A large amount of dark red blood came out with it.
Faldor opened his mouth, and a roar that sounded inhuman rolled out of his throat. His other severed arm scratched Andrei’s face haphazardly.
Taking advantage of the moment when the two were locked in combat, Elphis continued his escape.
He ran into the depths of the dense forest, bent over, and suddenly stopped. There was a tripwire on the path beside the tree trunk!
He knows Brock too well; the fact that he's set a trap here means he's now within his sniping range.
In a flash, he made an extremely dangerous move. He rushed out of his cover, and a barely audible gunshot rang out. A bullet grazed past him as if a gentle breeze had just passed by.
That direction! Elphis bent down and rushed forward, almost skimming the ground. The second shot grazed his head and hit the trunk of a large tree in front of him.
At eleven o'clock, someone set up a shooting position on that huge, leafy tree, about three stories high.
He moved close to the bushes, trying not to expose his silhouette in the open.
Brock didn't fire again. He was still waiting. He was waiting for Elphis to run into the open space, for him to run into that clearing without tree trunks.
However, all he received was another muffled explosion.
He sneered, aiming his sniper scope at the direction of the explosion. He could already see a new life of wealth and luxury; all he had to do was take down Elphis.
Even if Elphes were made of iron, he couldn't possibly survive two explosions.
Next, just one bullet will do the trick. Just one bullet will take him down.
But when the black smoke cleared, all that could be seen in the scope at the center of the explosion were charred marks and shrapnel fragments, including... a mountaineering axe?
No! It wasn't Elphis himself who detonated the bomb; he deliberately used his mountain axe to do so, just to attract Elphis's attention!
The next moment, a pair of hands suddenly reached out from behind him and violently pulled him to the ground!
Brock fell from the tree trunk, his back slamming heavily against it. His eyes widened as he saw Elphis's iron mask.
"you……"
Without saying a word, Elphis reached out and tightly gripped his head with both hands.
With his left hand supporting his right cheek and his right hand cupping his left cheek, terrifying forces attacked from both directions simultaneously. Brock's eyes bulged out and his face turned purple.
"traitor!"
Elphis squeezed both hands together towards the center!
The sound of the skull cracking was muffled, like crushing a ripe pumpkin. Blood gushed from Brock's nostrils, eye sockets, and ears at the same time. His eyeballs bulged out of their sockets and hung on his face. His skull deformed, changing from a round shape to an oval shape, and from an oval shape to an irregular shape. Elphis's fingers dug into the flesh, his knuckles embedded in the broken bone fragments!
Elphis didn't let go; he kept squeezing...
With a soft thud, Brock's body stopped convulsing and went limp.
Elphis released his grip, panting heavily, and shook off the blood and bits of flesh from his gloves.
He wearily removed his blood-stained gloves, revealing a pair of silver prosthetic hands. They hadn't been maintained in a long time and were covered in abrasions. The once silvery hands were now a pathetic pale, and the legion emblem on the back of his fist had been worn away.
When he looked up, Andrei was already standing not far away.
Andrei was covered in blood, from his hair to his boots, there wasn't a clean spot. His right hand was dragging half of Faldor's corpse, the broken ribs facing upwards, the internal organs sliding out from the cracks and dragging on the ground.
He casually tossed the body to the ground and stared at Elphis's hands.
"Your hand?" Andrei's voice held a hint of surprise. "You underwent a procedure to modify your limb with a prosthetic?"
It wasn't just a prosthetic modification; he couldn't believe his eyes. Elphis's prosthetic was called Silver Shield.
In the middle of the Great Crusade, the Iron Emperor ordered a prosthetic limb conversion ceremony for one hundred ordinary soldiers who had fought bravely on the battlefield, granting them the qualification to be promoted to other legions and continue fighting for the Empire. The prosthetic limbs used in the ceremony were the Silver Shields.
This means that Elphis was a veteran who participated in the Great Expedition and had received the highest honors!
Elphes did not answer; he silently put his gloves back on.
"You're also a soldier of the Empire?" Andrei took a step forward, his face filled with horror. "Why did you become a cave raider? Why!"
Andrei took another step forward, less than three steps away, and the heat dissipation vents on his metal arm opened, steam gushing out.
"It's fine if you don't speak. Traitors to the empire are to be killed without exception!"
Elphis wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and pulled out his mountain axe from his waist.
The two were only two steps apart, and the blood on the ground was still flowing downwards, pooling into a small puddle and seeping into the soil.
The heavy footsteps of the nuns grew closer in the distance, steam billowed from the gaps in their armor, and grayish-white smoke filled the forest, carrying the smell of rust and machine oil.
"Come on," Elphis said softly, his voice carrying a calm acceptance of death. "It's time to end this."
