Chapter 241: 241 SUPER SOLDIER SORROW
Chapter 241: 241 SUPER SOLDIER SORROW
241 SUPER SOLDIER SORROW
[Liberty City's main subway station- underground]
"What's happening? Why was the city's force field disabled?" Celadon asked, his voice tight with worry.
"I thought the shield would hold until I could bring everyone into my space, but…" Queen Erythos paused, then said grimly, "we don't have that kind of time. The shields fell too fast."
"Then save as many as you can," Sienna said without hesitation.
The underground station was packed with thousands of people waiting shoulder to shoulder. Yet there was no chaos, no screaming panic—only tense discipline.
They had trained for this.
Sienna had always known the city might fall one day, and this was the contingency she had prepared.
Soldiers scanned each person for their unique identification markers, ensuring they were registered citizens of Liberty City before moving them forward in batches.
Above the crowd, Erythos hovered in the air, her form unfurled—dozens of tentacle-like extensions reaching down and attaching gently to the evacuees.
Batch by batch, the tentacles pulled people away into a hidden recuperation space beyond conventional reality.
"What do we do now?" Gamboge asked.
"The rest of you secure the subway entrances," Sienna ordered. "Do not let the enemy breach them before we're ready."
Isabelline cracked her knuckles. "That's easy. No human gets through with us standing here."
"Alright," Mortuum said, already turning away. "Let's move."
The psychics split off toward their assigned positions, preparing to intercept any enemy soldiers who dared descend into the underground.
----
"We're almost at the central subway entrance," Kail said.
"Good. Get to Sienna in the subway. She has a backup route that will take you out of the city," Damen replied through the comms as he fired another plasma blast into a warship overhead.
Suddenly, the damaged warship lurched out of control.
Its engines failed, and it hurtled straight toward the central subway entrance, crashing violently into it.
"Hey, boss! Watch where you're shooting!" Liorea complained.
"Sorry," Damen muttered.
"We can't use the subway now," Kail said as drones and soldiers poured out of the wrecked warship, swarming toward the shattered entrance.
"What do we do now?" Liorea asked.
Damen's first instinct was to obliterate the obstruction—to wipe out every drone and soldier in the way. That was the only way to clear a path for Kail and Liorea.
Then the sky darkened.
A figure emerged from above, descending slowly until he hovered at eye level with Damen. The pressure radiating from him was overwhelming.
Damen instantly scanned the figure.
Name: Sorrow
Strength Rank: 6A Meta Rank: A
Strength: 326,842 | Charm: 65 | Meta: 5,174 | Command: 5,175 | Armor: 32,684
"What the hell…6A?" Damen gasped as the report finished compiling.
Sorrow wasn't an ordinary meta.
He was a Meta Super Soldier.
Damen had heard of them but had never encountered one in person. Super Soldiers were metas who pushed their Strength stat to insane extremes.
Though mainly empowered by Strength alone, they developed abilities once thought exclusive to high-level meta users.
Sorrow floated effortlessly in the air.
His raw strength was nearing S-Rank territory, and his innate body armor was nearly twice as strong as Damen's.
Damen clenched his fists. If he focused on Sorrow, he wouldn't be able to protect Kail and Liorea.
"Kail," Damen said urgently over the comms, "you two need to get out of here now. This Super Soldier isn't someone I can deal with quickly."
"Then where do we go?" Kail asked.
Liorea's eyes widened. "The secret Hermes workshop. If the battle escalates, our only way out of the city might be riding Hermes itself."
Damen nodded. "Yes. Good idea."
With that, Kail and Liorea changed direction.
They abandoned the ruined subway entrance and moved toward another hidden location deep within the city, while Damen remained hovering in the air—face to face with Sorrow.
------
The moment Kail and Liorea turned away, Sorrow moved.
There was no warning. No taunt.
The air detonated.
Sorrow vanished from his position and reappeared directly in front of Damen in less than a blink. His fist shot forward, compressing the air into a solid wall of force.
BOOM!
Damen barely crossed his arms in time to block.
The impact shattered the sound barrier and sent him rocketing backward through three buildings. Concrete and steel erupted outward as his body tore straight through them.
Damen stabilized mid-air, his Annunakin skin burning as it absorbed the impact. Pain rippled through his arms. Warnings flashed across his vision—his armor integrity was plummeting.
"This bastard is too fast…!" Damen muttered.
Sorrow didn't pursue immediately.
He hovered calmly, his hands clasped behind his back, and cold hollow eyes watching Damen like a predator observing a wounded prey.
"Target acquired… Supervillain codename: Black Halo," Sorrow said, his voice flat and mechanical. "High-threat meta. Elimination authorized."
Damen fired without hesitation.
A barrage of plasma bolts ripped through the sky, each blast powerful enough to vaporize armored tanks. The explosions swallowed Sorrow in blinding light.
When the light faded, Sorrow was still there.
Not a single scratch marked his body.
The plasma washed over him and dispersed harmlessly, like rain striking stone.
Damen's eyes widened. "You've got to be kidding me…"
"Is that all?" Sorrow said calmly. "Who classified you as a Supervillain worthy of my deployment? I was sent all the way to this remote city for this?"
"Who are you?" Damen asked, forcing conversation—buying himself precious seconds to think.
"I am Sorrow. Meta Super Soldier of the League of Heroes," he replied. "I am on a special mission summoned by the Governor of Silver City to eliminate you."
Without waiting for a response, Sorrow clenched his fist.
Space distorted around his arm. Veins glowed like molten metal beneath his skin.
He lunged.
The shockwave tore through the city as Sorrow closed the distance.
Damen twisted aside, narrowly evading the punch—but the residual force clipped him, sending his body spinning violently through the air.
Ever since the latest upgrade to Damen's DemoCoin App, stat bars hovered in the corner of his vision. He could see his stats in real time like in an arcade game.
His health held—but his armor was collapsing fast.
ARMOR INTEGRITY: 61%
Sorrow advanced, stepping through mid-air as though gravity itself bent to his will.
"You rely too much on energy weapons," Sorrow said. "True strength comes from the fists."
He accelerated again.
"Damn it… I'm not his match," Damen cursed. "Plasma can't even scratch him."
Damen activated his Mind Core.
He couldn't win—but he might evade long enough to escape.
Mind Core — Level 6: Activated
The world slowed…or at least it was Damen's perception of the world being slowed.
Sorrow's incoming strike unfolded in perfect clarity, every micro-movement mapped inside Damen's mind. Damen caught the punch—but instead of meeting it head-on, he redirected the momentum sideways.
A sonic boom exploded from Sorrow's punch…. The released force tore a skyscraper clean in half.
"Damnit, even my Sonic smash isn't as strong as this," Damen complained.
The recoil blasted both fighters away from each other.
Damen skidded through the air, breathing hard.
His arms trembled violently, pain flooding through his body. He was far more damaged than Sorrow from the exchange.
ARMOR INTEGRITY: 42%
"So, this is the strength of a Super Soldier…" Damen said grimly.
Sorrow straightened in the sky, completely unshaken.
"Yes," Sorrow replied coldly. "And you are not worthy to fight me."
